CRAIG SANGSTER
Craig Sangster is the founder of CS Investment Counsel Corporation, an independent investment advisory firm focused on investment management based in Toronto, Ontario.
Craig has over 30 years' experience in the investment management industry, successfully advising different groups ranging from entrepreneurs to corporate entities. Since becoming involved in the investment industry in 1986, Craig has worked in the trading and brokerage divisions in some of Canada’s major banks before establishing CSIC Corp.
After graduating with an Honours degree in Economics at York University, Craig invested heavily in finance-specific education in order to deliver sound financial advice to his clients. Craig’s qualifications include:
Chartered Financial Analyst (CFA) - The CFA designation is regarded by most to be the key global certification for investment professionals, especially in the areas of research and portfolio management. The CFA Institute, the governing association for Charter holders, is a global non-profit professional organization of more than 58,000 financial analysts, portfolio managers and other financial professionals in 112 countries. In addition to administering the CFA Program, the institute is also recognized around the world for its investment performance standards, code of ethics and standards of professional conduct.
Fellow of the Canadian Securities Institute (FCSI) - According to the CSC, the FCSI designation is the most senior financial services designation available in the Canadian marketplace and is awarded and monitored by the Canadian Securities Institute. The CSC notes that the FCSI designation is reserved solely for financial services professionals that meet the highest standards for advanced education, ethical conduct, industry experience and endorsement from peers.
Canadian Investment Manager (CIM) – This designation is administered by the Canadian Securities Institute. It is the regulatory requirement for an individual to be licensed to conduct discretionary portfolio management in Canada. Currently CSIC does not conduct discretionary portfolio management – clients approve all transactions in advance.
BA (Hons), Economics, York University - Craig was lucky to have some very savvy economics and math professors during his undergrad.
Craig Sangster is also a member of several industry organizations, including the Toronto CFA Society, the Financial Planners Standards Council, and the Canadian Pension and Benefits Institute. In his spare time Craig enjoys reading, music, and wine, and time with his wife, and children.
